Gerry Petrella is the General Manager for U.S. Public Policy and the Executive Branch at Microsoft. In this role, he leads a team of policy and government relations experts focused on strategically managing Microsoft’s U.S. policy priorities.  He joined the company from the Office of the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Charles Schumer, where he served as Policy Director.  He also serves on the board of the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).

While at the Office of the Senate Majority Leader, Gerry led the development and execution of the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in climate change and clean energy in U.S. history.  He was also the lead negotiator and manager for Senate Democrats on landmark legislation such as the 2018 Bipartisan Budget deal, the CARES Act, the Chips and Science Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure deal, and the American Rescue Plan. 

He is an experienced policy practitioner and thought leader that is well respected for reaching across the aisle to broker bipartisan compromises, including multiple bipartisan budget agreements and the 2020 COVID-19 relief packages. Over the course of his career, he has advised members of Congress, the White House, and companies on issues ranging from technology and environment to infrastructure and health care. Gerry received his BA from Syracuse University, Magna cum Laude.  He was born and raised on Long Island, NY. He lives in Maryland with his wife and son. When he isn’t working on policy issues or spending time with family and friends, he enjoys rooting on his beloved New York Mets, Giants, Knicks, and Islanders.
